CURRICULUM WITH ROY BOOK BINDER-
I have always said “The left hand is your brain and the right hand is your personality! “…..I’m not going to mess with your right hand too much! …..You do need some basic fingerpickin’ experience to benefit from my classes. I use no tabs or written music. I teach as I was taught, by watching and listening………..But there are some tabs written by Cliff Brown, one of my students at The Fur Peace Ranch in BOOK’S BLUES BOOK.(which will be available at the Workshop as well as DVD’s on Homespun) .
Rev. Gary Davis Ragtime made simple
Rev. Gary Davis Instrumental style made easy…..This class will include numbers I learned from Rev Davis back in the 60′s. My approach has always been to make the songs my own. I encourage students to do the same. We will learn some of the chords that Rev. Davis taught to me and how to use them in many songs that you already play, making them more interesting to the listener and more fun for the player. Possible songs include Slow Drag, Devils Dream, and Buck Dance.
Raggin’ the blues key of C-A-G
In this class we will be dealing with what can be done to make standard blues and novelty tunes into more interesting pieces. Using some of the tricks and licks taught to me by Rev. Gary Davis and other old timers, back in the 60′s, will be used in songs new to you and will be easily adapted to spruce up those already in your repertoire.
Turn arounds, inversions, movable chords and cool endings! What could be more fun?
