Manny Yanes was Born in Habana, Cuba. Manolo was raised in Miami where he steeped deep in all the musical styles surrounding that multi-cultural community. A master of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean music, Manolo is the founder of Afro-Cuban band Grupo YaYa, & Nutria a New Orleans funk-flavored group,both feature saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), keyboard player Johnny Neel (Allman Bros.) and guitarist Chris Anderson (Dickie Betts,Outlaws), & Michael Bohanon ( Sade) make up the rest of Nutria. Manolos’ versatile bass groove can also be heard on Patti Labelle’s Grammy Award winning “One Night Only”. His performing and recording scrapbook also includes venerable artists such as Robert Palmer, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Gerald Lavert , The Neville Brothers, Papa Mali, Cyril Nevilles Tribe 13, Bonerama,Edwin McCain, Arturo Sandoval, Armando Peraza, Mike Pinera, Deborah Allen and many others. You can hear Manolo playin bass on Edwins’ Latest Release “Nobodys Fault But Mine” . He also shares bass duties with legendary Motown bassist Bob Babbitt, drummer Chester Thompson (Weather Report, Santana, Genesis) and guitarist Shane Theriot( Neville Bros, Boz Skags) on American Idol finalist Nadia Turner’s upcoming release. Currenty Manolo is touring w/ Cyril Neville & Tribe 13 thru 2010 & spot dates w/ Papa Mali. Manolo recently reunited w/ Big Chief Smiley Ricks ( Dr. John) and “The Indians of The Nations” Mardi Gras Indians from New Orleans for an upcoming CD & Tour, in addition to producing a tribute album w/ Dony Wynn to the late great Robert Palmer, and a socially conscious music project ,w/ his Grupo YaYa feat. Cyril Neville on Vocals, & Chino Dreadlion of Yerba Buena fame . The collaboration resulted in a co written song w/ Cyril & Larry “Si Se Puede” (Yes We Can) w/ an infectious rap by Chino Dreadlion. A new CD is in the works for late 2009, early 2010. Manolo proudly endorses Phil Jones Bass Amplification, Hartke, Fender, Dean Markley Strings, Peavey,and Dean Guitars.
